Just “Be”ing

As I sit writing this post, I am in Hilton Head, SC listening to the birds chirping and the cicadas signing their songs while enjoying a cup of cinnamon tea from Charleston Tea Company.  A decadent morning, a perfect morning to begin our day of just “be”ing.

My mom and I are on our first ever mother-daughter trip, a weeklong vacation in the low country, our absolute favorite place in the world.  The pace is slower, the food is delicious, the marshes wind through the countryside just begging to be explored.  The quiet and serenity of the low country is simply amazing and something to be experienced, even if you only do it once.

To give a little background on my just “be”ing experiment…  Mary Pritchard has a wonderful Intuition 101 class that I purchased about a month ago but only recently had the chance to begin.   I first want to say that her voice and manner are absolutely amazing, she invites you in like you’ve known her forever!  Her first lesson is learning how to just “be”.  As a doer in life, I found this to be an amazing concept and something that I truly feel I am ready to learn how to do. My mom is a doer as well, always needing to have something on her plate or she feels like she is being lazy.

The amazing part of learning to just “be” is that it is not about being lazy, it’s about doing what makes you happy or fulfilled at that moment in time.  It also helps to have moments of just “be”ing in order to connect to your intuition or your inner voice.  With our busy lives, we tend to ignore or not hear our inner voice which is really our own internal GPS for our life.  When we don’t listen to that voice, it can lead to wrong decisions or feeling unfulfilled or just plain unhappiness.  Listening to that inner voice keeps us on our right path, pointing to our purpose or our North Star, if you will.  Your inner voice knows your values, knows what you need to feel and live your purpose and passions.  I believe things in the Universe do not happen randomly, it all happens for a reason and your inner voice helps you listen to the Universe and what it has in store for you.  It is truly a powerful experience if you grant yourself the opportunity!

So I thought, hey, vacation is a perfect time to try this new approach out.  You see, I love to plan vacations and when I say plan, I know where I am going and where I am eating everyday.  I also make little itinerary books for those that come along with me, things to do in the area, history of the area, etc.  I am a lover of learning by nature!  Don’t get me wrong, I am spontaneous but I also like to make sure that I miss nothing when on vacation!  So I guess some would say that I live it to the fullest!  But what if there is something else out there that I am missing, something more beautiful or fun or awe inspiring because I do have it all planned out?

Our exercise for today is simply “to be”.  Whatever sounds good to eat or fun to do, we are going with it.  And hey, if being lazy is part of what makes us happy today, we are going to be ok with it.  In fact, I already indulged myself by sleeping in today.  I woke up and thought I should get out of bed, I didn’t want to waste the day!  Then I asked myself, is that what you really want to do right now?  And myself said, no, let’s lie here a little longer, I’m still tired!  I felt proud that I made it through the first “test”, as little as it was.  Life is about celebrating those moments of “testing”.

I encourage you to take a few moments or a whole day if you can swing it and just “be”.  I would love for you to leave a comment and let me know how it works out for you.  This is something that I would like to incorporate into my one on one coaching sessions with my clients.  I’ll be back tomorrow with an update on how today went!  Enjoy your day!
